Artist, Jackie Young

My enthusiasm in art began at the age of 10 with receiving a blue ribbon at the Minnesota State Fair for an oil painting. In high school, my desire to continue in the arts was because of an outstanding art instructor’s encouragement; I was honored to receive a scholarship to the Minneapolis Institute of Art and later at the Chicago Institute of Art. I studied art in Idaho, Washington and California at various colleges and universities. At two of the colleges, I was responsible to do art for many events that required set designs, promotional materials and their programs which was enjoyable and rewarding. When living in Northern California in Marin County, my art was mainly of large acrylic paintings of oceans, rolling hills and San Francisco city life.
In recent years, I have been very fortunate to be involved with the art group at Westbrook Village in Peoria, Arizona. I had the privilege of being their president for four three years and the past 3 years, planned the programs and education for the club. I’ve received recognition awards at several of the annual WBV Fine Art Show each spring.
Most recently, I’ve discovered a “fun art” of creating the backgrounds for the fused glass designs created by artist, Ron Pfeiffer. This has been a freedom of expressing bold and unique designs on canvas to go with his beautiful fused glass. However, I’m continuing to paint mainly with acrylics in a wide range of subjects taken from photos. Another aspect of “art” in my life in the past three years is having “Paint Parties” for residents of Westbrook Village. This has been so thoroughly enjoyable because I have had many participants painting for the first time in their life and enjoying the satisfaction of creating their “own” painting to take home and some continuing to do more art.

The following are examples of my "fused glass on canvas".
