Artist, Kathy balderston
In my paintings, I try to express a different point of view - one that may not be commonly accepted but could be true.
Growing up in Montreal, within a family that emphasized creative pursuits, I was constantly challenged on an artistic level. Crafts, needlework, jewellery making, drawing, rug hooking and sculpture were some of the daily activities.
After high school, I completed a year of haute couture study at Ecole des Beaux Arts in Montreal and a home study certificate in pattern and dress making. Throughout the years, painting became the pursuit of choice. While mostly self taught, I have taken many workshops and courses in Quebec, on the East Coast where I lived for several years, as well as workshops in Alberta, B.C. and Phoenix, Arizona where I spend the winter months.
I am so fortunate to call two places home.
You can find me in Calgary, Alberta in the summer and Peoria, Arizona in the winter.
